Richard Scott Herndon, 59, was welcomed into the arms of God on April 13 at his home from heart failure.
He is survived by his wife, Shelly; children Ben, Ashley and husband Ash (Herndon-Dubra) and Stephanie; mother Cleo Herndon of Gladstone; and sister Nadine and brother-in-law Mike (Zimmerlund) of Hillsboro.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Herndon.
Richard was born in Oregon City. Richard attended elementary and high school in Gladstone. He graduated with honors from Oregon State University and he was an avid Beaver Believer. He was an ATP pilot and had a successful career as an electrical engineer for Weyerhaeuser. He was instrumental in the design and operation of their Santiam Mill.
Spending time with his wife and children were his greatest love. He looked forward all year to summer and taking his boat out on the water. Summer vacations at Lake Shasta with family and friends were so important to him. He could fix anything and the more challenging the better.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Valley Christian Center, 577 Scravel Hill Road, Albany, OR 97322. Light luncheon will be served afterward.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Valley Christian Center in honor of Restoring Hope or the charity of your choice.
