Obituary

Richard Leroy Weygandt, 84, passed away on Saturday, April 19 in Corvallis.

Richard was born in Parkdale and grew up in Hood River County. He spent his early adulthood in the Portland metro area, and later lived several years in Silverton.

Richard left school after the 8the grade when his father died so he could help support his mother and siblings. He served in Japan during the Korean War, and then worked for the original Morse Brothers as a pipe layer. He continued in the construction industry for over 40 years before his retirement, On December 9, 1956 he married Gracie Mae Goff.

Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman, He loved anything to do with the outdoors, learned from his father, Mark Weygandt, a renowned guide who made over 500 trips to the top of Mt. Hood. Richard was good at fixing mechanical things, and built wood furniture such as picnic tables after retiring. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and National Wildlife Federation.

Richard is survived by wife Grace Weygandt of Silverton; sons Scout Weygandt of Albany and Tom Weygandt of Pendleton; daughters Sandra Yandell of Sandy , and Margaret Heard of Silverton; brother Ted Weygandt of Bend; granddaughters Kimberly Brehm of Carson City, Nev., Becky Boren of Albany, Mishelle McCall of Portland, Ashely Adair of Seattle, and Melissa Heard of Portland; grandson Kenny Heard of Silverton; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Mark Weygandt; mother Beulah (Jones) Weygandt Bennett; brothers Wesley and Myron; and sisters Vera Gillam and Violet Ernst.

A graveside service with military honors will be at 3 pm on Monday, April 28 at Willamette National Cemetery.
