Robert W. "Bob" BlessingDecember 9, 1930 - August 31, 2009Robert Warren "Bob" Blessing, 78, unexpectedly went on to be with his Lord and Savior August 31, 2009.  His was a life well lived.He was born December 9, 1930 in Portland, Oregon, the son of Victor and Hazel Blessing. The family moved to Scappoose, Oregon in l946, where Bob attended Scappoose High School and where he met the love of his life.He married Dorothy Lynch on December 22, 1951.  Their 58 years of marriage would be the bedrock of his life.  He spent four years in the Navy as an engineman and a member of the Underwater Diving Team, later known as the Navy SEALS.Bob worked for Lloyd Lynch Logging in Scappoose, logging and driving log truck.  He and Dorothy moved to Albany in l955 where he worked for Halton Berg Automotive as salesman and later, Nebergall Meat Company as truck driver.  In 1973, he bought his own truck and started his own company, Bob Blessing Trucking.  He owned and operated 3 trucks until l986.  Later with his wife as partner, he started a bath resurfacing company, Bathcrest of Portland, where they worked together until retirement in l998. Bob loved the ocean and diving.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing, snow skiing and almost any other outdoor activity.  For years he would truck all week, pack up the camper on Friday night and take the family skiing or camping for the week-end.  His greatest joys and most cherished times were those he spent with family, his children and grandchildren.  Tickling, teasing, laughing and playing were his trademarks.Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dottie"; son Robert Lloyd Blessing and wife Lyn; daughter Karen Lea English and husband Blake; grandchildren Robert Blake "Robbie"  and Jackson Lloyd English, Sydney Rae and Robert Kye Blessing;  brothers Ron and Bill; aunts Evelyn Ladwig and Erma Marchant and many cousins, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his brother, Dick and his parents.There will be a memorial service celebrating his life September 5 at 1:00 pm. at Dever Conner Community Church.  Viewing will be from noon to 1 pm at the church.  Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Resources of Oregon or Dever Conner Community Church in care of the funeral home.  AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
