Obituary
Robert F. Gierau 90, died June 30, 2012 in Albany, Oregon. He was born October 12, 1921 in Springview, NE. to Frank and Maude Gierau.
Robert graduated from Cottage Grove High School in Cottage Grove, Or in 1939. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy as an apprentice seaman. He was stationed in the U.S. Navy Base Medical unit at an overseas base in Eniwetok Island in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945 and re-inlisted in the Air Force at the beginning of the Korean war.
On November 10, 1951 he married Gloria M. Moss. With Gloria they had four daughters, Mary, Julia, Paula, Kathy. After Gloria's death in 1966 he married Carmen Sternburg in 1967. They had a daughter, Barbara. After Carmen's death in 2006 he married Nancy Aldrich in Albany, Oregon. Nancy died in August of 2011.
Robert owned and operated "Gierau's Market" in Cottage Grove, Oregon from 1950-1993. After selling his business he moved to Albany, Oregon where he resided until his death.
Robert loved the "Oregon Ducks" and loved to fish in Alaska with his daughter Paula. He loved the Arts and Symophony and all his children and grandchildren very much. Robert lived his life to the fullest until his dying day.
Robert is survived by his 5 daughters and son-in-laws: Mary & Jon Hanson of Albany, Julia & Michael Welborn of Palos Verdes, CA, Paula & Jay Rohloff of Soldotna, AK., Kathy & Bill Sime of Salem, Or. and Barbara & Mike Weibel of Renton, WA. He has 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Chuck Gierau of Georgetown, CA. and brother-in-laws, Robert Boyce and Charles Moss of Eugene, OR and many special nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Thursday, July 5, 2012, 12:00 - 7:00 pm. at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany. Burial will follow at 3:00pm at Mt Calvary Cemetery in Eugene, Oregon.
