Robert E. LedfordMarch 19, 1921 - July 21, 2008Robert E. Ledford, 87, of Scio passed away Monday, July 21, 2009 at home. Robert was born March 19, 1921 in Whiteright, Texas to William C. and Arista C. (Reynolds) Ledford. He worked as a cowboy until WWII. He served honorably in the U.S. Army 33rd Infantry. After the War Robert worked as a welder in shipyards and construction. He married Gladys Wiley in Joplin, Missouri on Oct. 28, 1939. They moved to Scio nearly 40 years ago.He was a member of the Cherokee Nation, the American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, making jewelry, Indian folklore and history, gardening and raising miniature horses."Prayer to the Great Spirit; Speak the truth quietly, Listen with an open mind when others speak, Remember the peace silence brings."Survivors include two sons Kermit Lee Ledford of Conscience Damn, NM and Rockie Wayne Ledford of Scio; a daughter Bonnita Ann Lawson of Albany; a brother Thelbut Lee Ledford of Palm Springs, CA; a sister Thelma Ledford of Galyen, OH; eight grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, a brother J.W. Ledford, a sister LeViva Ledford and a granddaughter.Memorials are suggested to the Paralyzed Veterans in care of AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth St. SW, Albany, OR 97321.Private family service will be held.
