Obituary

Robert "Wayne" Shaffer, 76, of Albany, Oregon, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Born in Princeton, Missouri, to Leona and Wayne Shaffer, Wayne moved to Oregon in 1964, where he built a life grounded in integrity and resilience.

Drafted into the United States Army, Wayne served honorably from 1969 to 1971 in the Vietnam War. His service was a testament to his unwavering sense of duty and courage—traits that defined him throughout his life. In 1971, he married Pauline Hostettler, sharing a loving marriage of 46 years until her passing in 2017.

Wayne had a passion for camping, often venturing out solo with his dog when others couldn't join. He loved working on cars, especially restoring his prized 1965 Chevy Nova, a treasured barn find. Time spent with family in the woods or at the dragstrip brought him great joy.

Those fortunate to know Wayne remember his steady presence, dry wit, and quiet generosity. He was a kind, friendly man with a warm smile and a wonderful spirit.

Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife Pauline and his parents.

He is survived by his brother Michael Shaffer, sister Sharon Shaffer, daughter Melinda and son-in-law Sean Berretta, son Troy Shaffer, three granddaughters—Ashley, Kayla, and Paige—and several great-grandchildren.

In honor of Wayne's service and lifelong respect for veterans, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a veterans' organization of your choice.
