Obituary

Robert Grant Shatrau, 90, of Albany passed away Tuesday at his home.

He was born and raised in Fulton, N.Y., the son of Dennison B. and Agnes N. (Schmidt) Shatrau. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940 and served over seas in the 82nd Airborne infantry and received the Bronze Star at the Battle of the Bulge.

After his discharge, Robert returned to Fulton and married Evelyn L. McKay on Oct. 24, 1945. They made their home in Fulton where Robert worked as a machinist and tool maker. They came to Albany in 1967 and Robert worked for James River Co. until he retired in 1984. Evelyn preceded him in death in 1985. Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by long time companion Helen Foust of Albany; son John Shatrau of Albany; stepdaughter Carol, husband Dennis Burkey and their children, Travis, Jenissa and husband Jarrett Phillips, and Sarah, all of Albany; grandson Andrew Todd; great-grandson Landen Phillips; niece Helena Rockwood and husband Warren of Fulton, N.Y.; and many other nieces and nephews in the New York area.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

At his request no public services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice or the American Cancer Society and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
