The Greer family lost their father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Rodney Greer passed away in Portland, Oregon peacefully after a sudden brain aneurysm at the age of 76.

Once out of the service he traveled across the United States with his buddy Ed to Medford. He got a job at Sears as a mechanic and became good friends with his boss. They both moved to Albany, Oregon to the automotive department for Kmart. Shortly after he met his wife, Sharon, she was "his blue light special". They married in February 1977. In a few years, he took a position with Albany Wheel n Exhaust, then worked at Smoke Craft for 25 years. In 2007 he went to work at Lowe's distribution center until retirement in 2014.
