Roger Ray RussellMarch 1, 1925 - December 31, 2008Roger Ray Russell, 83, of Albany passed away Wednesday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.He and his twin brother, Rodney, were born in Albany to Echo Ethel (Reed) and Irvin Charles Russell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edna; and brothers Rod and Bob.Roger graduated from Albany Union High School in 1943 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a jeweler and was a well-known local radio and television personality. He retired from car sales in 1987 and was an inventor at heart.Roger and Alma Scofield were engaged in high school but went their separate ways for 28 years. They reunited in 1971 and enjoyed 37 years of marriage. Together, they watched her children's and grandchildren's lives unfold. He is survived by Alma; children Steve and Shelly Hobbs, Jamie and Arnie Kampfer, and Tim and Annette Hobbs; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren all in Oregon.A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Monday, January 5, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.
