Obituary

Roy was born at Albany General Hospital to Ralph and Evelyn Shilling of Scio. He grew up in Scio on the family farm on Shilling Drive.
Roy graduated from Scio High School in 1960. He then joined the Army where he served as a cook for three years. When he returned, he worked at Duraflake in Millersburg. While working, he attended LBCC and received an associate's degree in electronics. He retired from Duraflake in 2006.
He married Elsie Louise Hull on Sept. 17, 1966, in Scio. They divorced in 1994. They had four children.
He married Shirley Ann Fryer of Corvallis on May 6, 1995, at their home on Truelove Drive outside Lebanon.
Roy enjoyed traveling, hiking and camping in the Three Sisters Wilderness area. He loved working with his hands in the great outdoors. With the help of his wife, Shirley, he turned their property on Truelove into a backyard animal sanctuary. In his workshop he built many bird houses. He loved to read and assemble puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Delores Keen of Abilene, Texas; and brother Larry Shilling of Winners, S.D.
Roy is survived by his wife, Shirley Shilling of Albany; four children Brian Phillip Shilling of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Eric Jason Shilling, Angela Christine Byers and Ginger Marie Rummell, all of Albany; two stepchildren, Dania Lynne Mowry of Beaverton and Michael Bryan Fryer of Portland; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donations in his memory can be made to SafeHaven Animal Shelter or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, both in Albany.
