Russell F. Pommier

Russell F. Pommier, 89, of Albany died Wednesday at Timberview Care Center.
Russell was born in Lignite, N.D., to Fred and Muriel (Bunting) Pommier. He grew up in North Dakota and married Katherine L. Eberle on Aug. 17, 1955, in Esmond, N.D. Russell attended Minot State University, Oregon Western College and University of Oregon. He taught in a one-room schoolhouse for three years in Esmond, then 11 years in Northwood, N.D., and the 22 1/2 years at West Albany High. He retired Dec. 31, 1988.
Russell was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Duplicate Bridge Club and Albany Duplicate Bridge Club, and had a 50-year pin for the Royal Neighbors of America. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, woodworking, but most of all, his grandkids.
Russell is survived by sons Todd and wife Rebecca Pommier of Salem, and Rod and wife SuEllen Pommier of Portland; daughter Mitzi Pommier of Albany; sister Mavis Kalmbach of Bremerton, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
A Rosary prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with a luncheon to follow. A graveside service at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens will follow the luncheon.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Greater Albany Public Schools Foundation in care of the funeral home.
