Ruth Louise Ely-McAlpine, 87, was born on September 7, 1924 in Albany, Oregon to James C. and Amy Payne Robertson, the last of 5 children and the first daughter. She died after her hard-fought battle with cancer on September 8, 2011.
Ruth attended schools in Albany. She married Kenneth G. Sims of Portland in 1943. He died in 1962. She reared three children that survive her: Herbert Sims (Connie) of Salem, Linda Sims (Phyllis Vollstedt) of Albany and Ronald Sims (Jan) of Sisters, OR. Grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive her.
Ruth was also married to Charles Ely of Portland and Sterling McAlpine of Salem. Both preceded her in death.
She was a skilled seamstress and worked for Meier and Frank, Alterations Department, for a number of years in Portland.
Family and friends are invited to gather at her graveside at Riverview Cemetery, Portland, Oregon on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 10 am for a time of remembrance prior to interment.
