Obituary

Sherry Lynn Cooper

Nov. 21, 1948 – March 2, 2017

Sherry Lynn Cooper, 68, went home to be with Jesus after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Roanoke, Texas to Alfred "Jake" and Oleta Thomas, and the family moved to Scio, Oregon in 1955. Before graduating from Scio High School in 1966, Sherry started dating John Cooper, and they began a great partnership that continued nearly 52 years. They were married Oct. 20th, 1967 and along with their children, Dan and Marcie, have been immersed in the Scio community throughout their lives.

Sherry worked as a medical assistant in Dr. McIntyre's Scio and Stayton clinics for nearly 8 years. In 1984, John and Sherry launched Triple C Construction, and in the mid-90's they began raising ostriches as well. They retired in 2002 and their son continues to operate Triple C Construction.

Sherry loved being a mom and grandma and shared many hobbies with John, her family, and friends. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, travel, attending concerts, cheering at various sporting events, enjoying the beauty of the outdoors, reading, studying the Bible, teaching Sunday School and participating in activities at Scio Baptist Church, sewing, canning, photography, gardening, and numerous other hobbies. Sherry was always ready for an adventure and the family made many wonderful memories. Most of all, she delighted in her relationship with her Savior, and with her husband and family who brought her great joy.

Sherry impacted lives and built meaningful friendships at every turn. She is deeply loved and missed by countless friends and by those who survive her: husband John; children Dan Cooper and Marcie (Greg) Amero, all of Scio; grandchildren Melissa (Scott) Butler, Jared, Carter, and Mikaela Cooper, Aimee Zimmerman, and Haley Amero; great-grandson Easton Butler; mother Oleta Thomas; siblings Butch Thomas and Dona Lanz; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces who were precious to her. She was preceded in death by her dad, Jake Thomas.

Visitation will be Friday, March 10th, from 5-7 p.m. at AAsum-Dufour, with a memorial service at Scio Baptist Church on Saturday, March 11th at 11 a.m. A private burial will take place at Miller Cemetery in Scio.  Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Samaritan's Purse, or Evergreen Hospice, in care of AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.  Sherry Lynn Cooper
