Obituary

Stanley King Neal, MD died peacefully at the age of 77 on Friday, August 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Stan was born in Portland, Oregon in 1946 to parents Charles and Mildred Neal and grew up in Clackamas.  He graduated from Clackamas High School in 1965 and started Pre-Med at Portland State University.  While in Medical School at OHSU, he was reintroduced to a childhood acquaintance, Elaine Diane Voigt, and they married in 1971.

After graduating from Medical School, Stan and Elaine moved to San Bernardino, California for his internship and residency.  Their first child, Christina Noel, was born there in September 1973.

Upon completion of his residency, they moved back to Oregon to be closer to family and settled in Albany, Oregon, where Dr. Neal opened his new office to practice family medicine.

Their second child, David Thomas-King, was born in November 1976.  The next year, The Neal family joined Hope Church (then First Assembly of God), attending regularly for several decades.

Stan had many hobbies, including music (percussion, piano, harmonica, bass guitar, bagpipes, and more), whitewater rafting, traveling with the family, attending men's events with the church, and participating in mission trips.  Even after traveling the world, his favorite destination was Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon.

Dr. Neal kept his medical practice open for over forty years, working with and mentoring several other doctors during that time.  He loved practicing medicine so much, he spent much of his retirement treating patients at an Urgent Care clinic, even in his last year of life.  Mr. Neal held many titles in his life, but the one he was most proud of was "Papa Stan."  He adored his grandkids and looked forward to seeing them as often as possible.

Stan succumbed to lymphoma after a six-month battle.  He is pre-deceased by his father and mother and his older brother Dean.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years Elaine, his daughter Noel (Christy) and her husband Chuck, his son David and his wife Stephanie, his five grandchildren, as well as his sister Beverly and brother Tom.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 28, at Hope Church in Albany.
