Obituary

Stanley Dodd, 80, died Sept. 19, at his home in Albany.
Stanley was born in Albany the eldest child of Rev. Ferris A. and Martha M. Dodd. He attended high school at Gervais and graduated from Canyonville Bible Academy, a Christian boarding high school in Canyonville. He graduated from Glad Tidings Bible Institute, Santa Cruz, Calif. Then he served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany soon after World War II. He also served in the Army Reserve and the Air Force Reserve.
Upon returning from his service, Stan completed training in radio engineering and was employed as an engineer/announcer at the then young Christian radio station, KWIL in Albany. Because of his willingness he was hired by most of the radio stations in the Mid-Willamette Valley to climb their tall radio towers and replace the large beacon lights when needed. He served KWIL for about 17 years.
After his time in radio he worked at Rose City Sound, Portland, installing commercial sound systems. Opportunity arose for him to own a business and he purchased Superior Fence Company. He took great pride in installing the finest and straightest chain-link fences in the Willamette Valley until his retirement. He served his community as a member of the business council and was awarded the Ronald Reagan award for service to the Republican Party.
Stan was a faithful member of Albany First Assembly of God church and served as a deacon for more than 40 years. He recorded the church's weekly radio program, taught Sunday school classes, sang in the choir and served on the missions committee. A mission trip to the South Pacific island nation of Tonga was a favorite experience he shared with a team of people from his church. While there they worked to build a church/mission building.
Stan dearly loved all his family, and was preceded in death by his sweet wife of 51 years, Mary Alice Dodd.
He is survived by his children, Merrilee Swanson and husband Bruce of Montesano, Wash., Jonathan Dodd and wife Kellie of Carson, Wash., Loralie Ahola and husband Paul of Vancouver, Wash., and Phillip Dodd and wife Anita of Albany; and grandchildren Michael Swanson of Albany, Katie Swanson of Montesano, Joshua, Kaleb and Kessie Dodd of Carson, Faith and Annalie Ahola of Vancouver, and Trevor, Brandon, Connor and Avery Dodd of Albany. He is survived also by his siblings, Alden Dodd and wife Sara, Ellis Dodd and wife Clara Jo, Mineeta Bennett and husband Don, and Arvid Dodd and wife Catherine.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Albany First Assembly of God. A cookie reception will follow for all who attend.
AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements, and contributions in Stan's honor will benefit the missions fund at Albany First Assembly of God church ( www.aasum-dufour.com < http://www.aasum-dufour.com/> ).
