Sue Adele Koos, 82, a native resident of Albany, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Sue was born in Albany, the daughter of Arthur and Bessie Blanchard. Sue graduated from Albany Union High School Class of 1949. After graduation she moved to California to attend Dental Nurses Training School in San Francisco.
In 1950, during a visit back to Albany, she met Fred Cyril Koos Jr. at a community dance and began their courtship. The couple married on Feb. 23, 1952, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Albany. They remained in Albany, where they raised their two sons, Michael and Mark Koos.
Sue served for many years on Central School's PTA, Albany General Hospital's Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi. She was an avid bridge player and until 2011 continued to organize and plan the annual Class of 1949 reunion festivities. Sue was deeply committed to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is remembered as a fun-loving, compassionate mother, wife and friend.
Sue was preceded in death by brothers George Blanchard and Arthur Blanchard Jr.; and sister Dorris Summerfield. She is survived by brother Frank Blanchard of Portland; her husband of 62 years, Fred Koos of Albany; sons Michael and wife Stacy Koos of Albany, and Mark and wife Denise Koos of Scio; and grandchildren Arica, Abigail, Austin, Adrienne and Ariel.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth Street S.W., Albany.
Memorial contributions in her name can be made to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House or the Albany General Hospital Foundation in care of AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.
