IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan Lee
Jackson
February 18, 1943 – January 8, 2026
Susan Lee Jackson passed away at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House on January 7, 2026, in Albany, Oregon. Born February 18, 1943, in Portland, Oregon to Donald and Millie Taylor, Susan's journey in life was marked by love, service, and a dedication to her community that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Susan graduated from Albany Union High School in 1961. She later became a certified nursing assistant and exhibited unwavering dedication to the well-being of others, a trait that would become a lifelong hallmark of her character. Susan's pioneering spirit was evident when she became one of the first women to obtain an EMT license in Oregon, a testament to her courage and desire to serve her community. She later brought her nurturing spirit to Calapooia Middle School, where she worked as a licensed food server for the last 15 years of her career, ensuring that countless students received nutritious meals prepared with care.
On September 11, 1976, Susan married the love of her life, Allan Jackson, and together they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and mutual respect. Their partnership was a beautiful dance of give and take, with Allan turning a blind eye to the plants, pots, and gardening supplies that seemed to follow Susan home, and Susan's silent acceptance of Allan's ever-growing collection of tools. Allan quips about his involvement in the gardening, not wanting to grow anything he couldn't eat, but in truth he loved watching Susan's passion bloom around their home, at one point having upwards of 40 impressive fuchsia baskets blooming around their home.
A devout Christian, Susan's faith was a guiding light in her life, providing her with strength and comfort. As a long-time member of the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies, Susan held numerous prestigious positions, such as Past Noble Grand. Her commitment to the organization was recognized with several honors, including the Meritorious Service Jewel and the Declaration of Chivalry.
Susan's humility shone through in her volunteer work; she was always ready to lend a hand but preferred to work behind the scenes rather than in the spotlight, even if that meant hand-shredding chickens at midnight in the kitchen in preparation for an event. Her only desire was to help facilitate the activities and events she was supporting; this selfless approach endeared her to all who worked alongside her.
An adventurous spirit, Susan enjoyed over two decades of snowmobiling with Allan. Their excursions to the cabin, visits to Diamond Lake, and treks out to Crater Lake were filled with laughter and love. Witnessing Crater Lake frozen over was a rare and cherished memory for Susan and Allan.
Kind, loving, and generous—these words encapsulate the essence of Susan Lee Jackson. Her legacy is one of love, service, and the countless lives she enriched. She has left an indelible mark on this world, and though she has departed from this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Susan's life was a beautiful garden she tended with care, and the blooms of her influence will flourish in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
