Obituary
Susan "Sue" Jeanette Riley, 66, of Albany passed away on May 16 after a year-long battle with brain cancer at her Albany home surrounded by her loving family.
Sue was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Her family then moved to Cape May Point, New Jewsey, followed by moving to Riverdale, Maryland. She graduated from Bladensburg High School and continued on to receive a degree in nursing from the Prince George College of Nursing in 1972
Sue was married to William "Bill" Riley on July 22, 1969, in Washington, D.C. They were happily married for 46 years.
Sue worked as an RN at Johns Hopkins Hospital until 1987, when her family relocated to Albany. She then went to work as an RN, CSNRN for Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis for 26 years until her she was stricken with cancer. She served on the Oregon Nursing Association and the Good Samaritan Professional Nursing Care Committee as an advocate for patient centered quality care. She served as a mentor and preceptor for new medical staff during her career "on the Hill."
Her biggest joy in life was activities with her extended family including skiing, boating, traveling and anything adventurous. Sue was also actively involved in activities at Oak Grove School, North Albany Middle School and West Albany High School.
Sue is survived by her husband Bill; her beloved children, W. Jonathan, Jason T. and Megan E. (Riley) McKee; her five adored grandchildren, Kellen, Emmett, Liam, Elanor and Logan; and other family and friends.
Sue's life is best described by something Maya Angelou wrote:
"A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing.
She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her destination
prepared to be herself and only herself."
A celebration of Sue's Life will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Samaritan Conference Center, 605 Mullins Drive, Lebanon, OR 97355.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, 3600 Good Samaritan Drive, Corvallis, OR 97330
