Sylvia P. RiddersApril 9, 1921 - April 26, 2010Sylvia P. Ridders, 89 of Albany passed away Monday at her home.She was born in Portland in her grandparents home, the daughter of Milton Joseph and Zelpha Pearl (Whelpley) Stambaugh the second of three children. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wesley Stambaugh; and husband B. Jim Ridders.She is survived by her brother, Joe Stambaugh of Portland; daughter Susan and husband Larry Davison; three sons, Mike and wife Betty Ridders, Mark Ridders, and Kelly and wife Kim Ridders; 27 grandkids; and 30 great-grandkids.She enjoyed her family, flowers, gathering family history and her dogs. Sylvia and a group of other women whose husbands were on dialysis were instrumental in getting a dialysis unit going in the Salem Hospital so people in the mid-valley wouldn't have to drive all the way to Portland for dialysis. She also took a course in dialysis and dialized her husband at home.After Jim's death, Sylvia helped start Life-Link while volunteering at the hospital in Albany. She was a volunteer for 26 years in different capacities at the Albany Hospital. Sylvia never learned to drive but she had a motorized electric three wheel cycle that she rode to the hospital and back rain or shine. She loved the ocean beaches, camping with family, working in her yard decorating with statues and ornaments, reading, and watching movies, and was the family historian donating to several museums. Sylvia also donated to several worthy causes in the health field and her church. She loved her family and her church and had a memory like an encyclopedia, a heart of gold, and will be missed by many.A visitation will be from from noon to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be at 11 A.M. Saturday at the First Church of God, 1225 15th Ave. S.W., Albany, and a private family burial will be at Willamette Memorial Park.
