Vincent Raymond WalshOct. 10, 1920 - Aug. 11, 2007One of the finest of this nation's "Greatest Generation", Vincent Raymond Walsh, died Aug. 11 at his home in Albany. He was 86.A veteran of the World War II Alaska Campaign and the Korean War, Mr. Walsh was a proud member of the 802nd Corps of Engineers. He met wife future wife, Jennie, in Ketchikan, Alaska, during the war. They were married in 1944 and raised their family in Southern California, moving to Albany in 1988 upon his retirement.Born Oct. 10, 1920 in Westridge, Colo., he was the fourth eldest of a family of seven children that split time between Southern California and the Denver, Colo., area during his childhood. After military service, Mr. Walsh made his living as a construction contractor and later a cost analyst for some of the largest architectural and engineering firms in Los Angeles, including A.C. Martin & Associates, Charles Luckman & Associates and the Parsons Co.He was an avid golfer and active member of the Golf Club of Oregon until health issues forced him to hang up the spikes a few years ago. But he continued to enjoy watching professionals play on the television.Mr. Walsh is survived by his wife, Jennie, daughter Dawn Hoeger of Glendora, Calif. two sons, Douglas Walsh of Wrightwood, Calif., and Daniel Walsh of Seal Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Darren Hoeger of Fullerton, Calif., Maree Hoeger of Glendora, Calif., and Michael Walsh, of San Diego, Calif., one great grandchild, Colin Troman of Glendora, Calif., and brother Donald J. Walsh of LaVerne, CA.Private services were held in Newport on Aug. 14. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in Albany.
