WALTER LEE HODSDONDecember 11, 1915 - July 27, 2010Walter Lee Hodsdon, 94, of Sublimity died July 27th at Santiam Memorial Hospital due to complications after surgery. Walt was born in Mellen, Wisconsin. He graduated from Mellen High School and attended college in Stevens Point. He served with the US Naval Amphibious Forces as a cook on a LST in the Navy during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater (Iwo Jima and Okinawa). He also worked as a butter maker during his early years, a sausage maker at Nebergall Meat Company in Albany, and an Oregon State meat inspector. His retirement years were spent on a 60 acre ranch near Scio. He enjoyed hunting trips, playing cards, dancing, flying as a pilot, singing at church, tinkering around the farm and being active with his motorhome in Thousand Trails Singles Club. Walt was a 70+ year member of the Masonic Order and the Al Kader Temple. He was also a member of the Elks, VFW, and American Legion.Walt is survived by his sons Jim of Aloha, and John of Stayton, and their spouses and his daughters Margaret of Tigard, and Jenni of Arlington, TX and her spouse. He also has 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.A viewing will be from 9-10 a.m., Friday, August 6 at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home in Albany, 805 Ellsworth Street SW in Albany, OR 97321. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Graveside service and military honors to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens (34275 SW Riverside Drive in Albany, OR 97321 ) Walt will be buried next to his first wife, Helen. There will be a reception immediately following the funeral service at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. .
