Obituary

Warren C. Lawyer, Sr.August 4, 1932 - January 9, 2010Warren C. Lawyer Sr., 77, of Albany went home to the Lord Saturday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.Warren was born to Banks and Iva Rae (Eggleston) Lawyer in Waterloo, Iowa.  In 1938 the family settled in Encinitas, Calif., just north of San Diego.  Warren graduated from San Dieguito High School in 1950 where he enjoyed playing "iron man" football. Warren enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1951.  He eloped with his high school sweetheart, Patricia Norris, on December 28th the same year after extensive training in meteorology.  In January 1952, the Air Force sent him to Guam for the first time.  Warren's 20 year career in the USAF took him and his family all over the world, from Guam to California to Japan to Illinois, then Delaware, back to California and on to Greenland.  He first moved to Oregon in 1965 where he was stationed at Camp Adair Air Force Station in Corvallis.  Warren and Pat fell in love with the area and decided it was the perfect place to retire and finish raising their children.  They did just that in 1971, after another tour to Guam and to California they built a house in Corvallis and permanently called Oregon their home.Warren went to work as a Professional Boy Scout Executive, using the knowledge acquired through a life time of active involvement with Scouting.  He later worked at the Corvallis Gazette Times in Marketing for eight years.  In 1995, Warren and his wife left Hewlett Packard for a life on the road, touring the United States in their motor home for five fun years.  They returned to the area in 2000 and settled in Albany.Warren was an accomplished woodworker and model train enthusiast.  He was an animal lover and well known breeder of Champion Alaskan Malamutes and Bedlington Terriers.  He was an active member of the Chintimini Kennel Club, serving in numerous capacities over many years including President and Show Chairman.Warren is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia; his children Chuck Lawyer of Albany and Judy Lawyer of Gresham; his four grandchildren, Bethany, Jason, Kristen and Ryan; daughter in law Joy Lawyer and son in law James Hughes.A Memorial Service to celebrate Warren's life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 23rd at the Grace Point Nazarene Church at 1305 Hill Street SE in Albany.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to funding for Pancreatic Cancer Research at www.PCRT.org or www.Pancreatic.org.AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.  ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
