Wesley Reaver UptonMarch 11, 1919 - October 12, 2008Wesley R. Upton, 89, of Albany passed away Sunday at the Mennonite Home.He was born in Mena, Ark., the son of David and Mary (Cooper) Upton.  He was raised in Arkansas and Oklahoma.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and served until his medical discharge in 1942. Wesley married Willie Monk in Idabell, Okla., on March 7, 1942, and they came to Albany in 1949.  He worked for Simpson Plywood until he was injured and then became a long haul trucker for Mayflower trucking.  Wesley then purchased Corvallis Tool Rental in 1982 and ran the business until his retirement in 2000.  His wife, Willie, preceded him in death on June 3, 1976, and he later married Mertle Moritz on Feb. 20, 1979.  She preceded him in death in 1997. Wesley was a long time member of the  Assembly of God Church, the American Legion, and the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC).  He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, traveling, driving, and in his early days was a pilot, ventriloquist, and a magician.He is survived by daughters Mary Jane Sloan of Lebanon and Mona M. Conley of Albany; sons Bill R. Upton of Sarasota, Fla., and Charles W. Upton of Albany;  14 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Van Curtis Upton in 1992; five brothers, Thulow, Albern, David, Jack and Oscar; and three sisters, Lenara, Martha, and Ima Jean.A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Willamette Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  ( www.aasum-dufour.com )
