Obituary

Wilbert Edmund Howard Jr., 77, of Albany passed away Sunday at his home.

He was born in Glenridge, N.J., the son of Wilbert E. and Willard C. (Rogers) Howard. He was raised in New Haven, Conn., and graduated high school there in 1953.

Wilbert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and served for 21 years before retiring in 1975. He then earned his bachelor's degree at U.C. Riverside. He married Rosemarie Renate Knoss in London, England, on April 8, 1967. Wilbert worked as a registered nurse at Park View Community Hospital until his retirement in 1995 and he came to Oregon in 2000.

Wilbert was a classic pianist, and an avid car collector but his greatest passions were his children, grandchildren and animals. He was devoted to his family and caring for others.

He is survived by daughters Sophia Haberkorn and husband Scott of Albany and Monica Fitzgerald of Syracuss, N.Y.; sons Lawrence B. Howard of Albany and Phillip A Howard of Nevada; sister Evelyn Morton of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Benton Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.

At his request no public services will be held.
