Obituary

Wilfred "Bill" Shere
Nov. 3, 1925 - June 30, 2011

Wilfred "Bill" Shere, 85, formerly of Klamath Falls, Oregon, passed away in his home in Albany, Oregon on June 30th.

Bill was born in Oakland, California to Marie and Fred Shere. As a boy, Bill lived in various places around the country as his family traveled for reasons of his father's health. One of his favorite places was Yellowstone Park where they took care of the buildings during the winter and helped at the park in the summer. Bill attended a one-room schoolhouse and often spoke of the fun of running a dog team and sled between their log cabin and the school during the winter.

When he turned 18, Bill joined the Army Air Corp and was training to be a bomber pilot when WWII ended in 1945. After the war, Bill's parents moved the family to Medford, Oregon and Bill took up classes at Southern Oregon College in Ashland.

There he met and married the love of his life, Maryetta Baughman in the fall of 1947. Together they had five children and 64 years of adventures as husband, wife and best friends.

In 1958, Bill joined the Ashland City Police force and a year later was accepted into the Oregon State Police, where he worked as a fish and game officer until his retirement in 1982.

Bill is survived by his wife, Maryetta, his five children, Lynette, Mike, Pat, Kris, Billy and nine grandchildren.

He will be laid to rest at Willamette Memorial Cemetery in Albany on July 9th. Aasum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
