WILLIAM JOSEPH FELKERFebruary 24, 1924 - January 24, 2008      Former Albany resident William Joseph Felker passed away on January 24, 2008, in Chandler AZ. He was born February 24, 1934, in Los Angeles and was raised in Calif. In his younger days he sold tickets to the UCLA football games, drove ambulance, served in the U.S. Army and worked in Alaska before marrying Josephine Brumberg and settling in Ojai, CA. They and their two children moved to Scio in 1967. Bill was an avid hiker, backpacker, bicyclist and RV'er who spent many hours volunteering for organizations including big Brother/Big Sister and Dial-A-Ride in Albany, local hospitals and organizations in Mesa AZ, and was one of the founders and leader of Cub Scout Troop 126 in Scio. After Bill retired from the Duraflake Shipping Dept, where he had worked for 24 years, he and his second wife, Darlene Bush, sold their home, packed up the RV and traveled full time throughout the U.S. and Canada before becoming Arizona residents. Bill is survived by his wife of 30 yrs, Darlene; daughter Connie Holt (Lyn) of Cimarron KS, and son Skip (Conni) of Newport Center VT; sister, Fay Cox of Marble Hill MO; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. An "end of hike" gathering celebrating his life will be held at Willamette Memorial Park, 2640 NE Old Salem Rd, Albany on Monday, June 2, 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc for Pick's Disease Research, Desert SW Chapter, 1028 E McDonald Rd, Phoenix 85006 or to the charity of choice.AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements ( www.aasum-dufour.com ).
