Obituary

Willie Mae West, 83, of Silverton died Tuesday.
Mae was born to the late John Newton and Fanny Elizabeth Porter in Fay, Okla. Mae graduated from Fay High School in 1948. She married Murl West in 1948, and they lived together in Reno, Nev., before relocating to the Oregon coast and then Silverton in 2000.
Mae had an active and varied career including dealing cards in various Reno casinos, but ultimately she enjoyed being a wife and mother.
Mae was an active member of Scotts Mills Friends Church for as long as they could drive. She loved to travel, and visited many countries with her husband including China, Spain, England, Japan, Korea and Mexico.
Mae is survived by Murl West, her husband of 65 years; three children: Ronald West of Portland, Frank West of Albany and Vikki Allsup of Portland; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Rather than flowers, we ask that donations be sent to where Mae spent so many happy hours, the Silverton Senior Center: Silverton Area Seniors Inc (SASI), 115 Westfield St., Silverton, OR 97381.
A celebration of Mae's life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the clubhouse of Silverton Mobile Home Estates, 1307 S. Water St., Silverton. Burial will be held at a private internment.
