Obituary

Willis Clayton BurckFeb. 8, 1924 - Jan 29, 2010Willis Clayton Burck, 85 of Albany, went to be with his Lord Friday morning.He was born in Albany, OR the son of Harley and Katie (Widmer) Burck.  The family lived in the Clover Ridge area just west of Knox Butte and Willis attended Clover Ridge School all eight grades and graduated from Albany High School in 1940.  He married Dorothy Hoff on Dec. 2, 1943.  Willis worked as a carpenter for many years and along with his brother Clarence Burck built many homes in Corvallis and Albany. Willis and Dorothy opened Mid Valley Securities and Willis operated the office until his retirement in 2000.  He always had a green thumb and took pride in raising dalias and petunias and was very proud of the woodworking he did over the years including the urn he made for himself from walnut trees planted by his father in 1920.  Dorothy preceded him in death and he married Mary Phillips on Sept. 26, 2004.  Willis was a member of South Albany Community Church and the Gideons International and held the positions of Vice President, President, Church Assignment Secretary, and Memorial Bible Secretary.He is survived by wife Mary Burck of Albany, Sons Donald and wife Rose Mary of Lebanon, Dr. Kenneth and wife Roseanne of Phoenix, AZ. and Douglas and wife Joy of Prescott Valley, AZ. and step daughter Barbara and husband Marvin Estes of Sandy, OR.  Sisters Grace Anderson of ALbany, Evelyn Fisher of Phoenix, AZ. and Lois Detwiler of Monroe, WI. five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by brothers Ernest and Clarence and sisters Valery Baker and Viola Kropf.Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 6, at 10:30 a.m. at South Albany Community Church Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International at P.O. Box 4 Albany, OR. 97321.  Willis will be laid to rest with his first wife Dorothy where his head stone has been engraved with a hammer and chisel in the shape of a cross with the scripture "In My Fathers House are many Mansions".  AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  ( www.aasum-dufour.com )
