Wilma Edith HechtOctober 28, 1924 - August 16, 2009Wilma Edith Hecht, 84, of Albany, passed away Sunday afternoon surrounded by family at Timberview care facility in Albany. She was born Wilma Edith Harms to William and Edith Harms at her family home on Oakville Road in Albany on October 28, 1924. She was one of three surviving children.Known only as "Amy" in her younger days, she was fondly called "Beba" or simply "Gramma" in her later years.Wilma lived a Christian life of kindness and was always thankful. Her days were filled with nurturing, caring for and praying for her family and friends. Always there in times of trouble or sickness and always willing to listen. She knew the special things that made you feel better without saying a word. She put her love in cooking family meals, a legendary numbers of pies for holiday gatherings and old recipes she collected including the often-requested Farmhouse Cookies. Her canned goods, especially her jams and jellies, were a special prize. She helped people understand how special they were to her and the world around them. She will be remembered enjoying a good cup of coffee, often shared and often while sitting at her kitchen window "watching the world go by." She enjoyed the Albany traditions of Crazy Days, Saturday Market and the many trees and flowers Albany is known for. She loved a leisurely drive, eating an ice cream by the river, watching the ocean or simply watching the clouds in the sky. She fondly shared stories of her childhood in the Riverside area of Albany, her days at Riverside School and her later youth in Nashville Oregon. She was sentimental and treasured the least and greatest of gifts around her. Family may best remember her for her inner strength, love of family and the joy it gave to see her smile. Perhaps she was a woman of few words because she was always surrounded by the chatter and laughter of family and friends.Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph "Rudy" Hecht; sister Margaret Henderson of Portland; daughter Roselee "Loui" Richter of Albany; and grandson Steven Bralley of Albany. She is survived by her brother, Danny Lee Harms of Rochester, Washington; daughters Sue Hecht and husband Pete Debus of Scio, Charlene "Charlie" Craig and husband Neil of Kailua Kona Hawaii, Kathleen Ramirez and husband Mike of Albany and Judy Bralley of Albany; son-in-law Ernie Richter; grandchildren Lee Wasson of Eagle River Alaska, Tami Gibson of Albany, Amealia "Amy" Schreiter of Albany, Jessica "Jessy" Bralley of Albany and Maryenne Richter of Albany; great grandchildren Kayla "K-girl" Gibson, Trevor "TJ" Gibson, Capernius "Cap" Schrieter, Roselee "Rose" Schreiter, Kailen Wasson and Kaden Wasson; several nieces and nephews and many friends.A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, at First Assembly of God in Albany.
