Obituary

Yates Sherer, 92, of Albany passed away Tuesday morning at the Mennonite Home.

Yates was born in Albany, the son of Elmer and Lois (Yates) Sherer. He was raised on the family farm in Oakville and graduated from Corvallis High School.

Yates married Evelyn Goodhouse in Oakville on Feb. 8, 1943, and he worked the family farm and was the fourth generation to do so. Evelyn preceded him in death in 1995. On Oct. 21, 1997, Yates married Eva Walters in Los Vegas, Nev., and they resided in Albany. He enjoyed farming and following the stock market. He was a member of Albany First Assembly of God Church, Full Gospel Business Men, the Farm Bureau, and was active in the Oregon Legislature.

Yates is survived by his wife Eva Sherer of Albany; daughters Cathy Hess of Tangent and Christine Bithell of Hermiston; stepdaughters Vicki Inks of Spokane, Wash., Linnie Dietz of Wichita, Kan., and Christi Plinski of Portland; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Albany First Assembly of God with a reception to follow then burial at Oakville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice or Albany First Assembly of God Missions Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
