Elizabeth Anne Hurd Transue
March 28, 1941 - October 18, 2023
Elizabeth Anne Hurd Transue was born on March 28,1941 to Dr. E. Lew and Genevieve Hurd.
Anne grew up in Albany, Oregon and attended Maple Elementary School, Albany Junior High School, and graduated from Albany Union High School in 1959. She was a yell leader at AUHS and a life-long Bulldog fan. Anne discovered her passion for working with children through her summer job as a park teacher at Henderson Park across the street from her home in downtown Albany. Anne graduated from Oregon State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
Anne married Jack Pearce, Jr. on September 8, 1963. They lived in Fort Stevens, Washington and Anne taught her first year of first grade there. They returned to Albany in 1964 where Anne taught first grade at Sunrise Elementary School until the birth of her daughter, Jennifer, in 1970. Anne and Jack later divorced. Anne and Jennifer lived in Beaverton, Oregon for one year and Anne taught second grade at Chehalem Elementary School. Anne and Jennifer returned to Albany in 1977 where Anne taught first grade at Oak Elementary School for the next 26 years. She loved every moment of her teaching career. She was everyone’s favorite first grade teacher.
Anne became reacquainted with a high school classmate at a reunion in 1981. Lloyd Transue showed up at her door with a bottle of champagne after they talked at the class gathering. They were inseparable after that. Anne and Lloyd married on March 25, 1992. They were the loves of each other’s lives. They led a beautiful life together full of fun adventures. They enjoyed eating good food, road trips all over the west coast, playing tennis, going to the movies, long bike rides, and raising their combined family of three daughters.
Anne is survived by her husband, Lloyd Transue, her daughters Jennifer Norman (Chris Norman), Tara Tuepker (Rich Tuepker), and Tiffany Transue. She is also survived by her sister Susan Baldwin (Marc Baldwin), her brother David Hurd (Ann Hurd), her grandson Ben Norman, granddaughters Ellie Norman, Taylor Straka, and Teasag Tuepker, and five nephews and their families whom she adored. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. E. Lew Hurd and Genevieve Hurd.
Anne leaves behind countless people who cared about her. She loved her very special group of friends called the “Goodie Girls,” friends from St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, tennis friends, dance aerobics class friends, quilting class friends, Delta Gamma Sorority sisters, wonderful neighbors, and so many former students.
Anne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2014. She persevered through that devastating disease with grace as long as her body would let her. Anne died from complications from Parkinson’s Disease in her home just as she wished on October 18, 2023. She is dearly missed by all. Per Anne’s request, a small celebration will take place at a later date.
