David Razey Tribute

David Ivan Razey
November 26, 1962 - February 8, 2021

David Ivan Razey, born November 26, 1962 passed away surrounded by his three children, sister and brother in law on February 8, 2021 after fighting bravely for well over his expected time with cancer. David lived for his family and is survived by his children: Donald Andrew Razey, Dr. Jennifer Razey, and Shelby Elyse Razey; his sister Lori Canfield (David), brothers Eric and Mike Razey; his mom Leslie Razey, and countless nieces and nephews. Additionally, David was blessed to know his first grandson, Wilder Bennett Davy, who “Papa” affectionately referred to as “his little monkey”.

David was born in Dallas Or and grew up in the country on a farm outside of town. He went to school in Monmouth Or and graduated from Central High. He loved going to church and singing in the choir. There are so many great things he did as a kid: built hay forts, picked strawberries in the summer, corral sheep for shearing, spend nights in a tent in the orchard with grandpa Elliott keeping the wolves away from the sheep, climbed trees for possible forts, bottle fed baby lambs, chopped kindling, got into mischief with the neighbor boy Layne and so much more. He was a yell king on the cheer squad in High school. He was a Navy Veteran stationed on the USS Blueridge out of California.

David was a man of loving talents. He was known to show his love through his food, most notably if you were graced with having his cinnamon rolls, fudge, or baked ham with pineapple gravy. The star in the kitchen on Thanksgiving was always him. Even in the woods while camping he would be the one to build the fire that made our dinner… and smores. Not to mention eggs and bacon in the morning off the same fire from the night before.  He also was an avid crocheter who made everything from beautiful Afghans to preemie hats that he donated to the local NICU’s. His last few months consisted mostly of ordering way too much yarn to the house, and trying to hide it from his brother in law, also David.

He instilled a love of quality family time from an early ago for all of us kids, whether that be playing cards, board games or going camping which we so often did. It was a guarantee when hanging out with Dad that at least a few rounds of Chinese rummy were going to be played along with singing as loudly as possible to 90s country.

David’s key phrase was “I love you no matter what happens” which he said to each of his children after being put to bed, before ending any call, and through text constantly. Dad, we will all love you no matter what happens too and will miss you dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital under “David Razey Memorial”.
