Donald Gene Almen

On July 23, Donald Gene Almen, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. 

He is survived by Belva (Bach) Almen the love of his life, to whom he was married for 63 years. 

He is also survived by his brother Jerry Almen of Richardson Texas, his children Melannie Turner, Christine Almen and Kevin (Beverly) Almen, and grandchildren Stephanie Loomis, Benjamin Seilheimer, Hanna Gietzen, Sara Almen, Ryan Almen and Mary Almen. He was also blessed with his beloved great grandchildren India Loomis and Adam Seilheimer. 

Don is preceded in death by his parents George and Luella (Bingaman)Almen, and brothers Leslie and Clarence “Bud” Almen. 

Don attended Hettinger High school in North Dakota where he  attained academic and athletic honors, including holding the relay team record for approximately 50 years and being honored with their prestigious Hall of Fame award. He graduated from the School of Mines with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and went on to become an accomplished engineer working in the Silicon Valley, receiving several patents for his work. 

Don was known for his love of family, especially his children and grandchildren. Whether it was on the sidelines cheering on his grandchildren or quietly supporting his family Don was always a steadfast presence in their lives.

 He was also a faithful Denver Broncos fan for 61 years. Sunday afternoon and Monday nights were for cheering on the Broncos, through the good and not so good seasons! 

Don had a great sense of humor, kind heart, quiet strength and deep sense of goodness. Everyone loved Don, animals and people alike. He was the foundation of his family and will be sorely missed.
