James “Smiley” Hibbler went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 20, 2018.
James was given the nickname of “Smiley” because of his ever-present smile. He loved to make people smile and laugh. For the past 8 years, Smiley was a resident of a home owned and operated by Chanberlin House, Inc, where he lived a life full of Special Olympic bowling, softball, basketball, and friends. Those years also included going to sporting events with friends, an annual trip to the coast and a week of camp in Stayton with Upward Bound Camp.
Smiley was preceded in death by his father, Carl Hibbler; his mother, Marguerite Humphrey and his sister, Bea Segura. He is survived by three sisters: Sonja Tlamka of Livingston, MT; Margo Jones of Spindale, NC and Carla Paul of Rutherfordton, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to one of the following organizations that gave Smiley such a full, beautiful life: Chamberlin House, Inc., Chamberlinhouse.org, Special Olympics Oregon, Soor.org, Upward Bound Camp, Upwardboundcamp.org.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the great staff of Chamberlin House, Inc., specifically those at Sander House where Smiley was a resident, for their loving care of their brother. They also thank Samaritan Evergreen Hospice for helping us keep Smiley comfortable during his last weeks.
