Leonard Ernest Cox
Alpine, Oregon
June 1, 1935 - August 9, 2022
Leonard was born in Dexter, IA His family moved to Yakima WA before last moving to Alpine, OR area in the late 40s. Leonard lived in several places before finally settling down in Alpine as a young man. Living in Gold Beach, Philomath, and Bellfountain. He worked many different jobs but mostly involving the lumber business. Working at IP Miller, Hull Oakes and Seneca mill in Eugene.
Although never completing elementary school nor one that read well, he was a quick learner and was a fixer of everything even if it took some ingenuity to make it work. He was a major fixture in the Alpine area and the Alpine Tavern where in later years he and "the boys" would have their "meeting" on Wednesdays and tell stories and who knows what else. I'm sure there were some good ones told, true or not! Some that were true probably sounded made up even!
Leonard always lended a helping hand, not only to friends and neighbors but to strangers broke down along the road or ones needing help in some way. One story involved using the car battery and a piece of chicken wire to weld the points on a car that was broke down along the roadside. Leonard never met a stranger. He enjoyed driving the backroads, puttering around in his shop tearing things up for scrap, water skiing, camping, repairing gas powered things, crabbing and fishing and many more things.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Cox and Mother Blanche (Mumford) Cox, a sister Vicki Cox and brother Ed Cox and first wife Connie (Andrews)Cox. He is survived by his current wife, Shirley (Wilde)Cox, daughters Debra (Don) Demele and Teresa Houseman.
