Lucille "Lucy" Knowles passed away from natural causes at age 78 on May 26, 2022. Lucy was born Lucille Maie Cross on Memorial Day, 1943 in Roswell, New Mexico and moved to Oregon at age 16.

Lucy wed Ronald Dean Knowles in 1971 and celebrated 40 years of marriage until his death in 2011. They lived in Albany before moving to Eugene in 1974, where Lucy worked for the Bethel School District at Shasta Middle School for over 20 years. Appreciated by both staff and students, she is well-remembered for her expressive style and sense of humor. Lucy was an avid bowler, a talented cross-stitcher, and she enjoyed traveling to Alaska and Italy. She also loved visiting the Oregon Coast and its lighthouses, organizing annual family trips to the beach for decades.

In her final years, as health issues began to take her strength and stamina, Lucy treasured the moments with friends and family, teaching patience and compassion and allowing them to return the love and loyalty she faithfully demonstrated throughout her life.

Lucy's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her three surviving children: Joseph (aka Joe), Jayna, and James (aka Tony), along with their spouses Shari, Kevin, and Rachel. Her life experience and witty advice will also be fondly remembered by her seven grandsons, a great-grandson, and her many dear friends. Her surviving younger sister Leetta was instrumental in Lucy's care, just as Lucy had been responsible for her as children. The siblings maintained their close lifelong friendship until the end.

A celebration of Lucy's life will take place on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Emerald Park, 1400 Lake Drive in Eugene, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who knew Lucy to consider making a tribute donation to the Dementia Society of America (https://www.dementiasociety.org/).
