Robert "Bob" Hodson Tribute

Robert Dale "Bob" Hodson, beloved husband, father and papa, was born in Burbank, CA, on December 25, 1942.  He passed away on November 19, 2022, at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in Albany, OR.

Bob was born to Jesse Dale and Doreen Alice (Johnson) Hodson.  The family moved to Grants Pass, OR, when Bob was four.  He grew up there and graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1961.  He attended Washburn University in Topeka, KS, and Southern Oregon College in Ashland, OR.

In 1964 Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for six years.  During basic training he was at Fort Ord and in Death Valley for 18 weeks of training as a tank driver.

He met Kathy Huovila in Medford and they were married in Brookings, OR, on December 17, 1966.  They lived in Portland and Eugene before moving to Albany in January, 1977.

Bob worked for Jefferson Standard Life Insurance and was district manager in Eugene.  He then worked for Williams Bakery in Eugene in production and in sales on the Albany to Brownsville route, at Evanite Fiber Corporation in Corvallis, and retired from NIKE in Beaverton.

Bob was a "people person" and enjoyed meeting, visiting with and serving others in many ways.  He was a volunteer for Hospice for over 30 years providing respite for caretakers and had over 200 patients he helped in this way.  During the years he was involved with Care Ministry, Special Olympics, the Big Brother Program, United Way, was a Salvation Army bell ringer and a Sunday School teacher.  He was also an associate chaplain at Samaritan Hospital in Albany and gave many Sunday sermons at the Mennonite Home.  He took mission trips to Cambodia and to El Salvador. In addition and to his great enjoyment, he produced over 130,000 Bible verse cards which he enjoyed giving to anyone he met.

Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, Oregon football and, of course, attending church on Sundays.

Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter Kambria Wallace (Jason); son Grant Hodson; grandchildren Zac Hunter (Hali), Madison Bonawitz (Taylor) and Grace Hodson; great grandchildren Banks, Hampton and Lawson.  He is also survived by brother John Hodson and sister Margery Brick; two nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Hodson.

A man of great faith, Bob was loved by his family and will be missed by many.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Albany Boys & Girls Club, SafeHaven Humane Society, Tangent, OR, and Missions at Eastside Christian Church, Albany, OR.
