The Greer family lost their father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Rodney Greer passed away in Portland, Oregon peacefully after a sudden brain aneurysm at the age of 76.
Rodney was born in Nampa, Idaho February 17, 1947, to Glenn & Selena (Morrison) Greer. Rod graduated from Minico High School in Rupert, Idaho, and attended college for one year studying forestry in 1966.
He was an avid outdoorsman which included fishing, hunting, shooting, and camping. These activities were not just a hobby but a way of life that he eagerly shared with his friends and family. He was a true handyman. No task was too great or too small for his skilled hands and he approached every challenge with a smile and smirk.
Rodney served his country in the United States Air Force in Germany as a bomb inspector and was honorably discharged in 1971. While overseas for enjoyment, he did competition skeet shooting and traveled around through Germany, Switzerland, and neighboring countries.
Once out of the service he traveled across the United States with his buddy Ed to Medford. He got a job at Sears as a mechanic and became good friends with his boss. They both moved to Albany, Oregon to the automotive department for Kmart. Shortly after he met his wife, Sharon, she was “his blue light special”. They married in February 1977. In a few years, he took a position with Albany Wheel n Exhaust, then worked at Smoke Craft for 25 years. In 2007 he went to work at Lowe’s distribution center until retirement in 2014.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Sharon of 46 years; daughters Audrey Greer, Yvette Greer, Lynda Palmer, Nadine Warren and husband Frank; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister Shirley Holmes of Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Robert, David, and Lyle of Idaho.
