Roger, age 70 of Albany, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House.
Roger was born at Emmanuel Portland Hospital to Wayne and Hazel (Fisher) Hooley. He grew up in West Linn with three older brothers. Roger accepted the Lord at the age of 9 and was a faithful follower all his life. After both of his parents’ deaths, he attended Western Mennonite School where a beautiful junior named Juanita caught his eye. Roger graduated from Albany Union High School in 1969.
Roger and Juanita (Ropp) were married on June 18, 1969. Soon after they were married they did voluntary service at “Rock of Ages” for two years. The majority of his working years he drove truck for various companies: Puget Sound, Fircrest, Boshart Trucking, and Valley Hay to name a few. He hauled a wide variety of things such as chickens, straw, bees, logs, and chips. He retired at the age of 63.
Roger had an interest in cars at an early age and continued throughout his life. He spent many hours under the hood of his cars. He had a love for sailboats which stemmed from his father and the memories they had made as a family on the water. Roger had a great memory and enjoyed reminiscing and exchanging jokes with friends, family and new acquaintances. He had a knack for striking up a conversation with just about anyone. His greatest joys came from spending time with his family. He was blessed with 7 children, 28 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his wife, Juanita Hooley (Ropp); brother, Dave Hooley; sons Casey and wife Tanya, Corey and wife Trina, Chaz and wife Anna Hooley; daughters Rita and husband Brent Baker, Sheila and husband Daniel Headings, Cindy and husband Brandon Funk, Ciara and husband Jamison Headings; 28 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Hazel Hooley; brothers John and Wayne Hooley; great-grandson, Asher Smucker.
A funeral will be held at Fairview Mennonite Church on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 2pm with a graveside to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Echoes Northwest and Helping Hands in care of the funeral home. AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling the arrangements (www.aasum-dufour.com).
