Steve James Wylie
April 30, 1942 – January 28, 2018
Steve, 75 of Albany, passed away on January 28th after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He passed at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House with his family by his side.
Steve was born in Columbus, Kansas, the son of James and Edith (McGowan) Wylie. Both of his parents are now deceased.
He spent his youth in Kansas and his young adulthood in Canyonville, OR. He then moved to Albany with his family in 1976.
Steve married his high school sweetheart Rebecca (Becky) Pearson on March 13, 1960 in Myrtle Creek, OR. They felt blessed that they had so many wonderful years together. Steve and Becky would have celebrated their 58th anniversary this March. The last four years were a special gift.
He was an electrician for Hanna Nickel Mine, the Roseburg Lumber Company and Weyerhaeuser Paper Mill before finally retiring in 2004.
Steve thoroughly enjoyed various activities including horse team roping, fishing (especially fly fishing), astronomy, fresh and saltwater aquariums and competitive shooting until his cancer prevented it.
He was a devoted Christian and accomplished Bible student. He was a member of the Albany Church of Christ. He felt becoming a Christian was his biggest accomplishment.
Steve dearly loved his wife and family. His cat Winston and dog Henry were the best nurse buddies ever. He kept his sense of humor and continued to tease Becky and others until the end.
Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, church brother, co-worker and friend of so many people. We would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers throughout this lengthy battle; especially Dr. Bai, Susan, and all of the wonderful staff at Evergreen Hospice House.
Steve leaves his beloved wife Becky; son Steven (Joi) Wylie; daughter Teresa (Al) Seufert; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Glenn (Ada) Wylie; and sister Arlene (Bruce) Murphy.
At his request, no services will be held.
