Ulysses Jose Ortiz Mendez
December 30, 2004 - October 14, 2023
Our darling Ulysses “Uly” Ortiz Mendez tragically left us in the early morning hours on October 14, 2023, from injuries related to a terrible car accident. Ulysses was born in Corvallis Oregon on December 31, 2004. Growing up he was the silliest little kid, it did not matter what it was, he would always make a good situation out of a bad one. His grandmother raised both him and his brother Ignacio since they were toddlers, before that Ulysses and Ignacio were together in foster care together where they knew nothing but love for each other. Uly and Ignacio did everything together, from getting haircuts together while screaming in the barber chair; getting dressed up in the same outfits before they went out; even matching their Halloween costumes to make sure they felt as one, Ulysses was the big strong hulk to Ignacio's spider man. Anyone who knew him knows the energy and laughter that would follow him when he walked into a room. His smile was the most beautiful smile God has ever created. Shiny pearly whites grinning from ear to ear. Ulysses attended Wilson Elementary in Corvallis but eventually moved to Albany where he then attended Sunrise Elementary. Ask anyone and they will tell you that he definitely was not the easiest to tell what to do. He got his stubbornness from his papa - most definitely.
After grade school he attended Memorial Middle School. The only thing he loved in middle school was hanging out with his friends and going skating. He would always ask his grandma after school if he could go to the skatepark for a little bit; “be back before dark” grandma said, he always replied ‘I will grandma, I love you”. Sometimes he would come in after dark, but he always made sure to go and tell grandma that he was home safe because he did not want her to worry. Ulysses then attended West Albany High School. He participated in track and football. If anything involved running, you best believe that Ulysses was winning it. There he met most of his friends, but most importantly people who made him feel welcomed and loved. He then switched schools and attended Albany Options School so that he could graduate early. Ulysses was the 2nd Mendez kid to receive a diploma. He graduated alongside many of his friends and his beautiful fiancé. After high school there was no stopping him, the sky was the limit! All he wanted to do was love and provide for his fiancé, he loved her more than anything in this entire world.
Ulysses was preceded in death by his grandfather Joel Mendez Sr.; his memory will forever be cherished. He is survived by his fiancé; Angel Pacheco; grandmother Maria Del Carmen Gomez; mother; Trinity Dolores Mendez; brothers Ignacio Ortiz Mendez and Isaias Mendez; sisters; Jasmin Alexis Mendez and Isabel Genesis Mendez; and many other extended family members.
Ulysses Ortiz Mendez will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, who will forever treasure the time they spent with him. May he rest in peace, as all of his struggles and pain are over, he is finally free, we love you, we do.
