Gregory Allen Shaw, 68, of Albany died Friday, May 6, 2016, at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House.
He was born in Portland to Darrell "Jerry" Baker Shaw and Georgia Lorene Shaw. He attended Kennedy Elementary and Grant High School ('65). He graduated from Oregon State University receiving a degree in science ('70) and a degree in electronics ('72).
In his youth, Greg was a member of the Explorer Scout Medical Corps and active in volunteering, backpacking and even traveling with his troop to Japan for the 1964 Olympics. Throughout his life, Greg delighted in helping others by using his hands to fix practically anything. Because of him, appliances lasted way beyond their years, proved by our still functioning 1964 Lady Kenmore washer and dryer set! Family was always very important to Greg and many special family times were spent on the Oregon Coast. Throughout his life he was guided and sustained by a strong faith in God. He was a 30-year cancer survivor.
Greg taught high school electronics for a short time but found his passion in more hands-on work with Sears where he worked as a service technician for 30 years.
Greg is survived by his wife, Lois, of 48 years; two children, Brian Shaw of Albany and Christine Robinson of British Columbia, Canada; and two grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Georgia Shaw of McMinnville; brothers Bruce Shaw of Eugene and Steve Shaw of Scappoose; and sisters Judi Henkle of McMinnville and Jan Greenfield of Portland.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry, and son Daniel.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.
