Daniel Luther Paterson passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at home in Albany.
Herby was born at home in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, to John A. and Margaret M. (Williams) Paterson. He attended school in the Clearfield Area, securing a trophy in the 1966 Plymouth Trouble-Shooting Contest. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968, serving to 1970, with a tour of duty in South Vietnam.

After earning his welding certification from Clearfield Area Vocational Technical, Herby moved to Albany in 1973. Upon arriving he operated and maintained equipment for Conrad Farms, welded at Golden West Homes and did private security for Valley Security.

In the early 1990s Herby attended Linn-Benton Community College, taking courses on horticulture and landscaping. He utilized those skills maintaining ball-fields and grounds for the city of Corvallis Parks and Recreation Department until retiring, continuing his lifelong love of riding Harleys.

Herby was preceded in death by father John; brother John C.; and sisters Dorothy and Phyllis.

Herby is survived by wife Loretta of Albany; son Daniel (Tara) and four grandchildren of Hereford, Arizona; mother Margaret of Apache Junction, Arizona; brother Gary L. (Deloris) of Parkville, Missouri; nephew Scott A. of Gardner, Kansas; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and an extended family of brothers and sisters in the wind. In the thousands of people he met in his travels he never met a stranger and is loved by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Linn-Benton Young Marines or any cancer research organization in care of the funeral home.

A memorial run will be Oct. 10 at Pioneer Villa in Halsey. Kickstands up at 10 a.m.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home.
