Howard Lawrence Owen of Albany passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at
Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House.
Howard was born in Salem, where he grew up and attended school. After
completing his General Educational Development credential, Howard joined the
U.S. Armed Forces. He served in the U.S. Army for eight years total. He
spent four years overseas in Germany. It was there that he was married to
Barbara Jean Turner on Dec. 1, 1955.
After they returned to the United States and Sam completed his service in
Missouri, the couple moved to Salem before finally settling down in Albany.
Howard began driving semi trucks when he lived in Salem, and continued to do
so well into his 60s. He loved automobiles, particularly street rods and
NASCAR.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Velma.
Howard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara; brothers Joe
Owen and wife Aileen, Robert Owen and wife Kay, and Jack Owen and wife
Janet; Diane and Robert Anderson; Paul Jr. and Mary Kuiper; Bernice Ann
Grenell; several nieces and nephews, and many other family members and
friends.
