Leona Mae Campbell Lyon
Aug. 14, 1929 - June 21, 2015
Leona was born on Aug. 14, 1929, to Walter and Myrtle Campbell in Merino, Colorado. Her parents moved the family to Jefferson in 1936. Leona graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947.
She married Dwayne Lyon on Oct. 15, 1950, and they raised their three sons on a family farm. Leona treasured her relationship with Jesus Christ and her family above all else, as evidenced by her morning routine: a cup (or three) of Folgers, Bible reading and praying for each child, grandchild and great-grandchild by name.
Leona also loved to laugh, never allowing the cares of this world to diminish her spirit. She often repeated the phrases "roll with the punches" and "you may as well laugh about it" because "there's no point crying over spilled milk." She understood that this world is temporary, and she sought to make the most out of every moment.
Always taking care of others, Leona spent even her last few days comforting her family and ensuring that everyone knew her greatest desire: that each would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and one day enjoy a reunion in heaven. Her unceasing faith, sense of adventure, and untenable devotion to family created a legacy for those she leaves behind.
Leona, beloved of all who knew her, is survived by two sisters, Edna Stam and Bonnie Hayes (both of Albany); three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Laurie Lyon (of Albany), Larry and Karen Lyon (of Corvallis), and Gary and Genoa Lyon (of Independence); one loved as a daughter, Pam Van Schoiak (of Albany); 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Albany First Evangelical Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
