Flaudie Hamilton passed way Wednesday evening, September 14 at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice Center. Her family surrounded her singing hymns as she entered heaven’s gates. She was born in Burnsville, Mississippi, the third child and only daughter of Oscar and Otha (Tubbeville) Marlar.

Flaudie began her elementary education in Hohenlinden, MS. She married J.W. Hamilton, a long-time family friend, on November 5, 1939 in Starksville, MS.

After serving in the United States Army during World War II, an employment opportunity opened in southern Oregon. J.W. and Flaudie along with three children moved to Ashland, OR in 1949.  Four more children were born while they lived in Ashland. They resided there until retirement when they moved to Phoenix, OR. J.W. passed away in 1996 and in 1997 Flaudie moved to the Albany Mennonite Village where she lived her remaining years.

Flaudie was very active in church wherever she lived. She was a member of Albany First Assembly. As long as health permitted, she was involved with the Seniors at AFA attending Bible studies and going on trips. She was an excellent seamstress and made numerous items for mission bazaars and clothing for her family. She loved serving others and assisted with funeral dinners for families in her church. Along with sewing, she enjoyed reading; especially the Bible. She will be remembered in the hearts of family and friends for her fried chicken, delicious breakfasts, and playing board games with the kids.

Flaudie was preceded in death by her husband, J.W.; second born son, Edward Hamilton; parents Oscar and Otha Marlar; and four brothers; Till, Paul, Winford, and  Ray.

She is survived by sons, Larry Hamilton and wife Sherry of Albany, and Bob Hamilton of Phoenix; daughters Sybil Orton of Grants Pass, Carolyn Burwell and husband Don of Tangent, Glenda Williams and husband Vernon of Hillsboro, and Teresa Wilson of Hillsboro. Family survivors also include 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Flaudie considered close friend Linda Rogers of Albany an adopted daughter.

A celebration of life is planned for her at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Albany First Assembly. Flaudie’s ashes will be interred in the Garden of Honor at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Oregon. Memorial donations may be made to Albany First Assembly Missions or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice.
